چکیده

In this work, we discuss kinetic descriptions of flocking models, of the so-called CuckerSmale [4] and Motsch-Tadmor [10] types. These models are given by Vlasov-type equations where the interactions taken into account are only given long-range bi-particles interaction potential. We introduce a new exact rescaling velocity method, inspired by the recent work [6], allowing to observe numerically the flocking behavior of the solutions to these equations, without a need of remeshing or taking a very fine grid in the velocity space. To stabilize the exact method, we also introduce a modification of the classical upwind finite volume scheme which preserves the physical properties of the solution, such as momentum conservation.

A Discontinuous Galerkin Method on Kinetic Flocking Models

We study kinetic representations of flocking models. They arise from agent-based models for self-organized dynamics, such as Cucker-Smale [5] and Motsch-Tadmor [11] models. We prove the flocking behavior for the kinetic descriptions of flocking systems, which indicates a concentration in velocity variable in infinite time. We propose a discontinuous Galerkin method to treat the asymptotic δ -si...

Existence of Weak Solutions to Kinetic Flocking Models

We establish the global existence of weak solutions to a class of kinetic flocking equations. The models under conideration include the kinetic Cucker-Smale equation [6, 7] with possibly non-symmetric flocking potential, the Cucker-Smale equation with additional strong local alignment, and a newly proposed model by Motsch and Tadmor [14]. The main tools employed in the analysis are the velocity...

A well-posedness theory in measures for some kinetic models of collective motion

We present existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence results for some kinetic equations motivated by models for the collective behavior of large groups of individuals. Models of this kind have been recently proposed to study the behavior of large groups of animals, such as flocks of birds, swarms, or schools of fish. Our aim is to give a well-posedness theory for general models which poss...

Time-asymptotic interaction of flocking particles and an incompressible viscous fluid

We present a new coupled kinetic-fluid model for the interactions between Cucker–Smale (C–S) flocking particles and incompressible fluid on the periodic spatial domain T . Our coupled system consists of the kinetic C–S equation and the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, and these two systems are coupled through the drag force. For the proposed model, we provide a global existence of weak s...

Asymptotic Flocking Dynamics for the Kinetic Cucker-Smale Model

In this paper, we analyse the asymptotic behavior of solutions of the continuous kinetic version of flocking by Cucker and Smale [16], which describes the collective behavior of an ensemble of organisms, animals or devices. This kinetic version introduced in [24] is here obtained starting from a Boltzmann-type equation. The large-time behavior of the distribution in phase space is subsequently ...
